| New I-9 Form Required |
Employers must use a new I-9 form beginning April 3, 2009 for each new person hired on or after that date. The regulations state that employers must retain all I-9 forms for current employees and for former employees for three years from the date of hire or one year from the date of termination, whichever date is later. |
The new I-9 form can be obtained by going to the website of the U. S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (www.uscis.gov) or calling the USCIS toll free at 1-800-870-3636. The agency also has prepared a lengthy handbook, giving detailed instructions for the completion of the new I-9 form. The handbook is also available at the same website and/or telephone number. |
If you have any questions regarding the new form, please contact Joe F. Canterbury, Jr. or Rick Gover. |
