Mr. Moorman joined Canterbury Gooch Surratt Shapiro Stein Gaswirth & Jones in 2017 after graduating from Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law.  Mr. Moorman's practice areas primarily include construction law, and personal injury defense litigation. During law school, Mr. Moorman interned with the Federal Court for the Northern District of Texas and performed litigation-related work at Southern Methodist University's Civil Clinic.  Mr. Moorman also worked as an associate managing editor for the International Law Review at SMU Dedman School of Law.  Before joining Canterbury, Mr. Moorman worked for a bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and foreclosure law firm.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Moorman graduated from Southern Methodist University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and English and Minors in Classical Studies and Italian.  While studying for his undergraduate degree, Mr. Moorman worked for a personal injury attorney.

Recent Accomplishments

  • Obtained summary judgment for the defendant in oilfield slip and fall case.

  • Obtained summary judgment for the owner on construction project based on the existence of a valid bond and successfully defended summary judgment against a motion for new trial.

  • Successfully appealed the judgment against a contractor and obtained a dismissal on appeal. 

  • Successfully obtained dismissal for a contractor based on a lack of jurisdiction. 

  • Vacated default judgment on appeal against client based on defective service. 

  • Successfully argued against the reinstatement of a case involving a commercial motor vehicle accident where the plaintiff sought over $1 million in damages, resulting in the continued dismissal of the case against the trucking company.

  • Drafted successful motion for summary judgment in a case where plaintiff claimed over $1 million as damages, absolving travel center of liability for an accident that occurred while a tractor-trailer was exiting its premises. 

  • Obtained dismissal for diesel fuel provider based on lack of control over the area where the plaintiff claimed to have been injured.

  • Obtained dismissal for a subcontractor in a personal injury case by a plaintiff who claimed to have fallen inside a hole near a residential construction project where the plaintiff sought over $200,000.00 in damages.
