Governor Abbott Issues Executive Order Permitting Construction to Continue Statewide
We recently wrote about the City of Austin's order requiring construction to halt in all but a very few specific circumstances. Today, Governor Abbot stepped in to issue an Executive Order voiding that local order and any other local order attempting to halt construction work.
Governor Abbott's Executive Order adopts the Department of Homeland Security's recent definition of "essential services" serving critical infrastructure, which includes much of the work our clients perform.
This is a welcome reprieve from what many contractors and industry members considered to be inconsistent and, in some cases overly restrictive, orders across each individual county in Texas. In these uncertain times, this Executive Order provides some certainty to the construction industry in Texas.
